Welcome to Copout Monday.

by Donna Freedman on July 12, 2010

My hat is off to grandparents who wind up raising their grandchildren. A mere half-day spent with my niece’s kids makes me want to lie down with a cold cloth on my eyes.

The boys are funny and sweet but very, very high-energy. Bless their hearts.

That’s why today’s entry is short. By the time I got back to my host’s home last night, I wasn’t good for much besides having a bowl of oatmeal and visiting a short time before crawling up to bed. And I’m only 52.

A reminder: Today is the deadline to enter for the $20 Amazon.com gift card giveaway. Sign up before 9 p.m. PDT, in any of the following ways:

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave an additional comment for each so that all your entries will be counted.

The winner will be chosen by a random number generator. Don’t let it down.

I love your blog!

Anyone that says, “Bless their heart” is adorable! You win for being cute, tired but cute!

@SonyaAnn: I follow the Sweet Potato Queens’ rule for heart-blessing, i.e., you can say anything you want about somebody as long as you end with that phrase.
Their example:”He’s a lyin’, thievin’ sack of shit and he’s going bald too, bless his heart.”
See? It works!

You forgot to add the emphasis of “Bless his/her pea pickin’ little heart”. You can literally insult someone in the worst fashion imaginable as long as you end with that phrase. . .

I’m only 31 and kids totally tire me out. My sisters each have 2 and a lot of my friends have young kids.

Wow, that would be a truly useful giftcard… *crosses fingers*

Heck, I couldnt keep up with at least one of mine when I was thirty, LOL. We used to have to tag-team. I would love the Amazon card. Ive decided I need to actually buy a darn good bread machine cookbook and a mix cookbok, not just rely on the library …

I hear you Donna! I’m a first time grandma, a couple years older than you, and as we speak (or as I type) I am babysitting my adorable 3 month old grandson every day while my daughter and son-in-law work. He is still immobile, thank goodness, but all the hauling of car seats, collapsing and uncollapsing strollers, rocking him while walking all over the house (all 15 pounds of him-like carrying a sack of potatoes), changing a thousand diapers a day, laundry, bottle washing, trying to figure out why he is crying; sure takes its toll mentally and physically. I don’t remember it being so tiring when my kids were babies!

My husband and I are exhausted after watching our grandson for the day. I’m a year younger than you.

It makes me realize we really don’t have the energy we did 20 years ago!

Amazon is amazing!

I’m 39, a dad of two little kids, and totally understand how one could be tired. I had no idea back in my 20′s how hectic this is! But more rewarding than anything.

Certainly, kids provide some extra motivation to generate income!
